What are cookies?
Cookies are small files or pieces of information stored on your device by a website or application. Similar technologies include local storage, session storage, SDK identifiers and security/session tokens.

What Writopus uses today
Writopus currently uses cookies and similar technologies that are necessary to provide the service, including authentication, session management, security, routing and basic application state.
Authentication
Used by Clerk to keep teachers signed in and protect account access.
Security
Used to prevent unauthorized access, abuse and session tampering.
Application state
Used to keep the workspace functional, remember active draft state and avoid losing work while using the tool.
These technologies are necessary for Writopus to work and generally do not require consent under EU cookie rules when used strictly for the service requested by the user.
Analytics choice
writopus-analytics-consent is stored in local storage only after you accept or reject analytics. It records that choice until you change it using the control below.
Workspace cache
The app may keep account-scoped drafts and pending sync operations in local storage so work is not lost during a connection problem. This data remains on the device until it is synced, deleted or the account is erased. Do not use Writopus on a shared device unless you control the browser profile.

Analytics and marketing cookies
If Google Analytics is enabled for Writopus, it loads only after a visitor accepts analytics cookies. We do not use advertising cookies or behavioral marketing trackers as part of the core product.
If heatmaps, advertising pixels or other non-essential tracking tools are added later, Writopus will update this policy and, where required, show a consent banner before those technologies are enabled.

Third-party technologies
The following providers may set or read cookies or similar technologies when their services are used:
- Clerk: authentication, sign-in, sign-up and session security.
- Vercel: hosting, routing, security and platform operation.
- Google Analytics: traffic measurement after analytics consent has been accepted.
- Stripe: checkout, billing and fraud prevention when paid plans are enabled.

How to control cookies
You can block, delete or limit cookies using your browser settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, Writopus may not work correctly and you may be unable to sign in or keep a secure session.
You can also withdraw or change the analytics choice at any time. Withdrawal stops future Writopus Google Analytics loading and removes accessible first-party Google Analytics cookies from this browser.

Changes to this policy
This Cookie Policy may be updated when Writopus changes providers, adds analytics, enables paid plans or changes how the website works. The latest version will always be available on this page.
